The Marine Toys for Tots Foundation raises funds, purchases toys, manages funds, solicits corporate support, educates the public, and provides promotional and support materials. In 1991, the Marine Corps established the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, an IRS recognized 501 (c) (3) non-profit charity to help run and support the program. In 1947, Henricks and the Marines in his reserve collected and distributed 5,000 toys in Los Angeles. Bill reported back that no agency existed and his wife implored him to start one. Diane has handcrafted several dolls and asked Bill to deliver them to an agency that supports children in need. Marine Corps Reserve Major Bill Henricks began Toys for Tots, taking inspiration from his wife Diane. Toys for Tots has been a holiday tradition since its inception in 1947. SPS participates annually in the Marines’ Toys for Tots program because we believe in the mission and making a difference in all of the communities where we have storage facilities. We believe strongly in helping less fortunate children in our communities who may not otherwise have gifts to open during the holiday season. We encourage our customers, staff members and everyone throughout our local communities to donate at the SPS location nearest you. Many of our storage facilities end up looking like toy stores, which brings great joy to our company and the children and families benefiting from your donations. In the last three weeks of the 2018 donation season, SPS collected nearly 1,400 new toys thanks to the continued support and generosity of our customers who come forward year after year. Each of the last two years have been record-breaking with all SPS sites participating. SPS has teamed up with Toys for Tots to collect toys for less fortunate children since 1997. All SPS sites will have donation bins available beginning Friday, November 1 and will be collecting toys through December 6, 2019. 2019 represents the 22nd consecutive year with some SPS locations participating and the 5th consecutive year with 100% participation.
